how to configure SMTP mail settings in joomla

It's required that you configure your joomla SMTP settings so that joomla is able to send
email when user registered or different mailing functions works for other components and modules
like k2, CB....
In this post i show how to configure joomla 2.5/3 smtp settings properly.

go to global configuration's server tab and then mail settings section.
select mailer as smtp, and other inputs shown below -

  •   This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • site name
  •  /usr/sbin/sendmail
  • Yes
  • SSL
  • 465
  •  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  •   password here of above email address
  • smtp.gmail.com

I used here gmail smtp and entered required inputs, if you want to use your server's smtp
settings to send email using your server's email address, then enter your server's smtp email
address, host, port inputs.
